UPSC 2017 Application Form

UPSC has released the schedule for civil services preliminary examination 2017, which is going to held on 18th June 2017. The origin of the Public Service Commission in India is found in the First Dispatch of the Government of India on the Indian Constitutional Reforms on the 5th March, 1919 which referred to the need for setting up some permanent office charged with the regulation of service matters. This concept of a body intended to be charged primarily with the regulation of service matters, found a somewhat more practical shape in the Government of India Act, 1919.

UPSC 2017 Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria for UPSC 2017 is as follows:

Nationality

  1. For the Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Foreign Service and the Indian Police Service, a candidate must be a citizen of India.
  2. For the Indian Revenue Service, a candidate must be one of the following:
    • A citizen of India
    • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam  with the intention of permanently settling in India.
  3. For other services, a candidate must be one of the following:
  • A citizen of India
  • A citizen of Nepal or a subject of Bhutan
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Educational Qualifications

  • A degree of graduation in any stream from any university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) is required for appearing in the examination.
  • Candidates who have appeared in the qualifying exam and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply, provided they submit the certificate of qualification along with the mark sheet to the UPSC before the main exam.
  • Candidate applying for IFS exam must possess a bachelor’s degree in one of the following: animal husbandry and veterinary science, botany, chemistry, geology, mathematics, physics, statistics and zoology, or a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, forestry or engineering from a recognized university.

UPSC 2017 Application Fee

  • The Applicants will have to pay Rs 100 for applying to the UPSC 2017 examination except female/SC/ST/PH candidates who will be charged no money for applying.

The mode of Paying the Application Fees has been explained below:

Offline mode

  • Applicants can also pay the Application Fees by cash at any branch of SBI .
  • Print the system generated Pay-in-slip during the Part -II Registration.
  • Deposit the fee at the counter of SBI Branch on the next working day only.

Online Mode

  • The candidates opting for online mode for paying the Application Fees should pay by using net banking facility of State Bank of India/ State Bank of Patiala /State Bank of Travancore / State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur/Sate Bank of Hyderabad/State Bank of Mysore/or by using Visa/Master Credit/Debit Card.

UPSC 2017 Selection Procedure

The selection procedure of civil services exam 2017 will complete in 3 stages-

  • Preliminary examination (MCQ type),
  • Mains examination (descriptive type)
  • Personal interview.

The qualified candidates of preliminary examination will be called for Mains examination followed by personal interview for final selection.

Stage I: Preliminary examination

  • A qualifying test advertised in May and held in August each year.
  • In Mid­October results are published.

Stage II: Main examination

  • Held in December every year.
  • In the second week of March results are usually published.

Stage III: Personality Test (interview)

  • Held in April/May each year.
  • In May the final results are usually announced.

UPSC 2017 Exam Pattern

The Exam Pattern for UPSC 2017 examination will be like this:

Preliminary

  • The Prelims Exam of IAS will comprise of two papers:

1. General Studies (GS) of 400 marks,

2. Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT) of 200 marks respectively.

  • All the question in both the papers will be multiple type.
  • The question papers will be set both in English and Hindi.
  • The Prelims Exam will be held for 2 hour time duration.
  • The Paper-II of Prelims Exam is qualifying in nature and candidates need to secure minimum qualifying marks of 33 %.

UPSC 2017 Admit Card

UPSC 2017 Result

Civil Services Exam Result will be published in the form of PDF file on the official website of UPSC after successful completion of examination. The applicants will have to search their roll no. from the PDF file. The successful applicants of preliminary exam will be eligible to take part in Main exam, which will be held in the month of October 2017. The examination result of Civil Services Main exam will be declared in the month of February 2018.
